Histoire de la cave coopérative de Vinsobres, du vin, des cépages, du terroir, des appellations

A taste tale

Working together for your pleasure

For erations, we’ve cultivated the hills of a small corner of Provence, in the heart of the Rhône Valley. It’s no surprise, then, that we all know each other. And yet, it’s always such a pleasure to get together! Over 60 years ago we decided to combine our talents as la Vinsobraise, 250 men and women tending their vines, with one simple idea lodged in each of our heads: share our pleausure for wine. We focus on making wines with personality and style. And we love sharing them with you.

Pleasure that keeps on giving

The vine has been cultivated here since ancient Rome. 2000 hectares and 2000 years of history. So much perseverance, knowledge and passion. Between century-old olive trees and rows of lavander, on arid soil bathed in sunshine, we produce Syrah and Grenache grapes that are amazingly concentrated. Each parcel of vines is taken care of according to its individual needs, exposition and micro climate. It may be hard work, but we enjoy it, and we always demand the best quality that our vineyards can give. So we can pass it on to you.

«Vinsobres ou sobre Vin, prenez le sobrement»
Monseigneur l’Archeveque de Vaison 1633's speech are, today, the most popular motto of the village and of its wines.

Creation and development of the cooperative cellar

That way since the first general meeting of 19 January 1947, which was held in the school hall and attended by 70 pioneers willing to embark on an adventure.

Vinsobres was a land of olive trees where the vine has always been present. The terrible freeze of 1929 gave a severe blow to the olive groves and the classification of Vinsobres in 1937, in the area AOC Côtes du Rhône, offered an extension to extraordinaire incitation.

In early 1947, the project was to establish a cooperative winery and lavandicole. Finally, the wine remained the only production of the cellar and fall 1949, we realized the first opening of the Agricultural Cooperative Vinsobraise. The capacity departure was 6400hl. But enlargements quickly followed (11 000hl to 53, 14 000 to 56 and 19 000 to 59).

In 1956, a massive freeze destroyed many olive groves (14000 to 15000) and therefore farmers preferred to convert agriculture in a less sensitive to cold. Then followed a historic day, September 7th, 1957 where Vinsobres gained Appellation Côtes du Rhône Villages Vinsobres.

Between 1964 and 1969 the cellar took his regime cruise with an annual production averaging 30 to 35 000hl whose 2 / 3 of Côtes du Rhône. The creation of the Tomb was born in 1974 and for the first time in its history, the cellar crossed the milestone of 100 000hl.

Cooperative Vinsobraise the cellar today

Today, and since February 17, 2006, the name of the Côtes du Rhône Villages Vinsobres gave way to the appellation Vinsobres Controlled. The geographical area represents 1385 ha and considers only the red wines from the 2004 harvest. This recognition is due to a long period of 6 years.

Today it is rewarded, but that does not constantly monitor the quality of the soil, vineyards and winemaking. The 250 men and women winemakers to take you to share their pleasure: the pleasure to offer you typed wines, wines of character that we like and which bring us together. You and we.
